Shopify Restricts iDEAL Payments for Small Webshops

Where Did iDEAL Go?! (And Why We’re Just As Frustrated As You)

We know that many of you in the Netherlands prefer paying with iDEAL, it’s fast, safe, and the most common way to shop online. That’s why we want to be fully transparent. We know this is super annoying, so let us explain what’s going on.

What Happened?
Recently, Shopify (the platform our webshop runs on) decided to restrict iDEAL for smaller shops. To re-enable it, they now demand:

  • 100+ completed orders
  • At least 90 days live on a paid plan
  • A very low chargeback rate

And here’s the kicker: this isn’t iDEAL’s rule, it’s Shopify’s. iDEAL itself hasn’t changed a thing.

Why It’s Frustrating
Without iDEAL, we know it can be harder for you to complete an order, and for us, it makes it more challenging to grow as a small business. Many Dutch customers rely on iDEAL as their primary payment method, so we completely understand the frustration.

What We’re Doing About It
We don’t want you to miss out, so here’s the plan:

  • We’re exploring alternative providers (like Mollie) to get iDEAL back sooner.
  • In the meantime, you can still safely pay with:
    • PayPal
    • Credit/debit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex)
    • Apple Pay / Google Pay
    • Klarna
    • MobilePay
    • Bancontact (for Belgium)

It’s not perfect, and honestly, it frustrates us just as much as it does you.

Our Promise
We’re not happy with this situation either, but we want to be upfront with you. Our priority is making sure you can shop with us easily and securely. As soon as iDEAL is back, you’ll be the first to know. Until then, thank you for sticking with us every order, no matter how you pay, it helps us get closer to unlocking iDEAL again.

Thank you for supporting our store through this transition. Your patience means the world to us, and we’re committed to giving you the smoothest shopping experience possible.
